Spiral Gallery Co-operative: Clay Fire and Community Ceramics Project

Mumbulla Community Foundation supported Clay Fire and Community Ceramics Project, which included Ceramics Workshops for the community and the UnEarthed Exhibition. Ceramics Workshops  Spiral Gallery presented a series of workshops in differing areas of ceramics in order to attract a variety of attendees. They were run at Bega Valley Potters Studio at the Old Bega Hospital. Several members of Spiral Gallery are also members of the Valley Potters and the 2 groups work well together on projects much as this, sharing common interests and joint aspirations. The workshops provided opportunities for artists and the community to come together in a project that is not available very often in the Bega Valley. The UnEarthed Exhibition  The exhibition aimed to present a high quality ceramics exhibition showcasing work by established ceramicists from the Bega Valley region. Pedestrian counters – Panboola Wetlands, Pambula

The purchase and installation of 2 pedestrian counters has certainly provided Panboola Wetlands with information about how many and where people go when they visit Panboola Wetlands in Pambula.  "For example the concrete path we know as ‘Yowaka St’ has been inundated with water after a very wet start to the year. This has resulted in a significant decline in the use of this pathway and the associated safe parking area at the start of the path. With drier conditions over Winter the path has dried out and we now see an average of 142 activations on the counter per day. People walking dogs or pushing prams, runners and cyclists clearly prefer to use paths where they won’t get wet and muddy feet! This knowledge has encouraged us to direct resources toward solving the problem of the ‘puddle path’. Volunteers collect and record data from each of the counters on…

Digital Learning Resources – Biratj Community Language

Mumbulla Community Foundation grant was used to develop digital learning resources utilising short videos as educational tools for community members to teach the local Aboriginal language. It was developed on Country at Jigamy and involved a mentoring relationship between local Aboriginal women. The resource highlights a contemporary songline which was developed by the Eden language group and features song, dance, story, ceremony and language. The connection to Country and culture was rather significant for everyone involved in this project and it wouldn’t have happened without the grant. Please read more about the Biratj Community Language project.
